She was real. That's the whole point.
Every animal meme these days is a stock photo with a caption. Kama actually happened — so how did we just let that fade into internet history? She deserves so much more.
An orphaned piglet wandered into a family's campsite on Oʻahu. They took her in, named her Kama, and one day she fell into the backyard pool — and just started swimming.
Swimming turned into surfing. Kama caught her first wave at Makapuʻu, dug her hooves into the nose of the board, and never looked back. She rode real Hawaiian swell, appeared in Hawaii Five-0, Jurassic World and the Jumanji films, and became a full-blown local legend at Sandy Beach.
The lineage continued through Kama 2 and Kama3, each one carrying the family tradition of hanging ten on four hooves. Kama wasn't a mascot invented for engagement. She was the original.
Every beach has a mascot. Only one of them actually surfed.
